ATLANTA (Sept. 10, 2009) – Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) is chairing the new Senate Policy Group, which is actively engaged in creating a policy agenda for the 2010 Legislative Session. Members of the policy group include Senators Mitch Seabaugh (R-Newnan), Chip Pearson (R-Dawson), Bill Heath (R-Bremen), and Bill Cowsert (R-Athens).
“The problems Georgians face are not limited to the time of year in which the legislature meets. We must focus year round on finding viable solutions that offer limited government intervention, improve the lives of Georgians, and create a growing, stable economy. This group of senators is determined to define the issues and meet the challenges. The members of this select group intend to offer results-based solutions on the first day of the 2010 legislative session,” said Rogers.
Members of the group were chosen based upon a level of interest and a desire to put in the necessary hours to form a comprehensive policy agenda. The Georgia Legislature operates on a 40 non-consecutive day legislative session during the year according to the Georgia Constitution. Over the past few years, legislative leaders have shifted those days to the beginning of each year within a four-month time period in order to conduct more efficient legislative sessions. The 2010 Legislative Session begins on January 11, 2010.
Sen. Chip Rogers serves as Senate Majority Leader. He represents the 21st Senate District which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He can be reached at his office at 404.463.1378 or by email at chip.rogers@senate.ga.gov.
