Senator Renee Unterman Encourages Education and Participation for the Red Ribbon Campaign

ATLANTA (October 31, 2019) | Senator Renee Unterman (R – Buford) released the following statement on the importance of the Red Ribbon Campaign:

“I encourage all of our citizens to become involved in education and advocacy regarding the Red Ribbon Campaign and specifically Red Ribbon Week, a time to focus on drug prevention awareness. Drug addiction will claim the lives of 142 Americans today alone so there is no time to waste – taking action to prevent future addiction and deaths is critical. Our citizens should become educated through campaigns such as this on ways to prevent drug addiction and what can be done to combat the rise in overdose deaths throughout our nation.

By sharing information and keeping lines of communication open, our communities can turn the tide and stop this epidemic from spreading. By bringing awareness to an issue that effects every single person, directly or indirectly, we can ensure that our future generations don’t experience the devastation the opioid epidemic has left behind. While we have made positive strides against this crisis through appropriations and legislation, there is much more work to be done. Informing the public through events like Red Ribbon Week, we can offer the opportunity for each citizen to know they are not alone in this battle and resources are available. It will take involvement from all of us to assist those who have become addicted themselves or those who have been impacted in other ways. It will take education and participation from all of us to turn the tide of the opioid epidemic.”
