Senator Nikki Merritt Qualifies for Re-Election

ATLANTA (March 8, 2022) | Senator Nikki Merritt qualified for re-election to Georgia Senate District 9 at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Georgia State Capitol.

First elected into the State Senate in 2020 as one of the few Democratic candidates in the state to unseat a Republican incumbent, Senator Nikki Merritt will seek reelection to continue serving Georgia’s 9th District. She has focused her legislative efforts on increasing voter participation, diversifying the legislature by removing barriers to running for office, worker protections, and advancing a progressive agenda to move Gwinnett forward. Prior to her public service, Senator Merritt studied English at the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University. She is a retired telecommunication service professional and CWA Local 3204 labor union member. Senator Merritt is the mother of two children who are studying at Georgia State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. She resides in Grayson, GA with her husband.
