ATLANTA (July 1, 2010) – State Sen. Donzella James (D-College Park) worked closely with Governor Sonny Perdue’s office to produce a $1.5 million grant for the expansion of Oakley Industrial Boulevard in South Fulton County. South Fulton is one of eight Community Improvement Districts (CID) that will receive transportation funding from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank. CID projects are designed to improve mobility and congestion in Metro Atlanta high traffic business centers.
“It’s important that South Fulton is not excluded from these important projects. In order for my district to continue growing, transportation infrastructure and traffic issues must be addressed,” said James. “By expanding Oakley Industrial Boulevard from two lanes to three lanes, traffic will decrease in the area and the quality of life for residents will improve.”
The grant will also include the construction of a new bridge over railroad tracks designed to improve safety for drivers and walkers. The expansion will decrease conflicts between residential and industrial residents.
“This area is a mixture of industrial and residential areas, and this new construction will allow both groups to function in a more harmonious manner,” said James. “I am so excited to be a part of the transformation of South Fulton County. This project is just a glimpse of the districts movement into greatness.”
