ATLANTA (March 13, 2015) | Sen. William Ligon (R – Brunswick) led the passage Friday of Senate Bill 36, the Underground Water Supply Protection Act of 2015. Senate Bill 36 requires the Board of Natural resources to adopt regulations that provide for the protection and preservation of the Floridan aquifer by July 1, 2016.
“Ensuring that the people of Coastal Georgia have access to clean drinking water is a top priority for me,” said Sen. Ligon. “The water supplied by this aquifer not only supports local economies, but it is superior to the alternatives in both cost and reliability. Not having the proper maintenance and regulations regarding aquifer storage and recovery, potentially poses a significant threat to the reliability and physical integrity of this natural water supply.”
Senate Bill 36 will now be transferred to the House of Representatives for consideration.
