Senate Bill Passes to Provide More Authentic Learning Experience for Non-Profit Museums Featuring Distilleries

ATLANTA (February 4, 2014)  |  The Georgia State Senate passed Senate Bill 240 today by a vote of 43 to 9.  Sponsored by Sen. Hunter Hill (R- Smyrna), this legislation will allow non-profit museums to manufacture and sample distilled spirits.

“I am pleased my colleagues in the Senate approved the passage of Senate Bill 240 today,” said Sen. Hill. “This bill will enable historical sites such as the Smith Family Farm at the Atlanta History Center to operate an antique distillery and enhance the patrons’ experience.”

The Atlanta History Center presented the proposed legislation to Sen. Hill to enhance the overall learning experience at one of its museums, the Smith Family Farm, which features a 19th century distillery.  As a result of this legislation, individuals who visit any one of the Atlanta History Center’s museums will be offered a more authentic perspective of the distilling process.

Senate Bill 240 will now travel to the House of Representatives for consideration.
