Senate Bill 67 Passes the Senate

ATLANTA (February 22, 2019) | Today, Senate Bill 67, sponsored by Senator Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge), unanimously passed the Senate.

“I want to thank my colleagues for their unanimous support of SB 67,” said Sen. Burke. “This legislation will assist the school systems in Seminole County as they work to fix the damage caused by Hurricane Michael. I look forward to working with the House to ensure this bill receives final passage and the citizens of Seminole County receive the necessary assistance the need to rebuild and keep moving forward.”

This bill would allow school systems with buildings that are at least 20 years old and have been mostly destroyed by natural disaster or fire to receive regular funding to repair or replace damaged buildings. SB 67 also creates a pathway for schools to qualify for certain grants if the school system’s five-year revenue from SPLOST does not generate enough funds for the required updates or repairs.

SB 67 will now be considered in the House of Representatives. The full text and progress of SB 67 is available at this link: http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/20192020/180621.pdf
