ATLANTA (May 15, 2017) | Senate Bill 15, sponsored by Sen. Michael Rhett (D – Marietta), was signed into law on Monday, May 9, 2017.
“There is never anything we can do to truly show our law enforcement officers our appreciation for all that they do,” said Sen. Rhett. “Anything we can do to ease the burdens on our retired disabled officers is a step in the right direction. SB 15 does just this by providing them the opportunity to acquire a free weapons carry permit. I look forward to continue working with our law enforcement community to ensure their needs are met.”
SB 15 grants retired disabled law enforcement officers with at least 10 years of service or those who have had to leave their position due to an on-the-job injury, the ability to obtain a free weapons carry license. The legislation received the governor’s signature on Monday and becomes effective immediately.
