Sen. William Ligon Calls on Citizens to Find Georgia’s Fallen Vietnam Veterans

ATLANTA (February 4, 2016)  |  As part of a statewide initiative, Sen. William Ligon (R – Brunswick) is calling on all Georgians to honor our Vietnam Veterans. The multimedia display at the new Education Center at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall (‘The Wall’) is still missing many pictures of Georgia’s fallen Vietnam War Veterans. The display honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War, including 1,584 Georgia soldiers. This effort is part of a national program by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) to put a face with each of the 58,300 fallen veterans from across the nation whose names appear on ‘The Wall.’

“By sending in photos of our faceless heroes, we can better honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Sen. William Ligon. “I want to thank my colleague, Sen. Judson Hill, for his leadership on this initiative and hope that all Georgians will join with us to identify Georgia’s faceless Vietnam veterans. I am aware of at least 14 men from District Three for whom we do not have photographs, and I would appreciate the community’s participation in sending those photos.”

Georgia’s campaign started in early November at a press conference put on by Sen. Judson Hill (R – Marietta). Legislative colleagues, as well as fellow citizens all across the state, were asked at that time to search for photos that prominently feature our fallen heroes. The goal of this project is to provide each Georgia Vietnam veteran’s name will have a face and background story associated with it by the end of the project.

Photos of fallen veterans can be submitted online at www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces. Photos may also be mailed to: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Attn: Call for Photos, 2600 Virginia Avenue, NW, Suite 104, Washington, DC 20037. Please send a COPY of the original photo, as the VVMF will not be responsible for returning any photos.
