Sen. Wiles Chosen Chief Deputy Whip

ATLANTA (January 5, 2009) – State Senator John Wiles (R-Marietta) has been chosen by Senator Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) to serve as chief deputy whip of the Senate.

“We face some tough issues in the 2009 session, and constituents are looking to us to provide the strong leadership Georgia needs for economic growth and fiscal responsibility,” said Sen. Wiles. “I look forward to providing that leadership and am honored to serve the Senate in this role.”

In his position as chief deputy whip, Sen. Wiles will serve as part of the Senate Leadership Team second to the majority whip, Sen. Seabaugh. Sen. Wiles will assume responsibility in the absence of the majority whip, which is charged with ensuring the desired attendance of majority members are present at important votes, and is also responsible for counting votes.

Sen. Wiles, who has served as deputy whip to the Senate since 2006, will take office as chief deputy whip with fellow Senate leadership when the legislature convenes on January 12.
