ATLANTA (May 25, 2017) | Sen. Tyler Harper (R – Ocilla), along with five other Georgia State Senators, has been appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle to serve on the Compensation of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) Task Force.
“As Chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee, I have seen time and time again the lengths our law enforcement go to keep the citizens of Georgia safe,” said Sen. Harper. “With the collaboration offered through this task force between local and state law enforcement, community partners and legislators, we can search for the best solutions to increase retention and evaluate compensation and benefits afforded to our law enforcement officers. I look forward to many productive and insightful meetings.”
“The service and dedication of our law enforcement officials is nothing short of heroic,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “We must make every effort to ensure local compensation packages are both competitive and fair to those who protect and serve. COPS will help local governments identify ways to maximize their support for the men and women who bravely protect our communities and neighborhoods.”
The COPS Task Force will bring Georgia’s legislators, law enforcement community and community partners together to address officer retention issues, officer compensation and benefits, as well as any unnecessary regulations keeping Georgia’s officers from performing their jobs as efficiently as possible. The Task Force will include staff from Association County Commissioners of Georgia, the Georgia Municipal Association, the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Georgia Sheriffs Association.
