ATLANTA (March 9, 2017) | Sen. Blake Tillery (R – Vidalia) welcomed Vidalia High School (VHS) Indians head baseball coach Greg James to the Senate chamber today. Coach James has served as the head coach at VHS for 30 years and the baseball team has won two state championships under his leadership.
“I was honored to host my high school baseball coach in the Senate chamber today,” said Sen. Tillery. “Being a high school baseball coach is so much more than just teaching players how to throw a ball and hold a bat. It’s building character through sportsmanship and transforming boys into men, and Coach James is a fine example of a man who has done just that. Coach James certainly had that impact on my life and his legacy in Vidalia is solidified through the success of the VHS baseball team.”
In his 30 year tenure as the head coach of the VHS baseball team, Coach James boasts a record of 489 wins and 287 loses, and lead the Indians to two GHSA AA State Championships in 19 playoff appearances. Coach James has been recognized for his leadership and coaching several times, including being awarded the 1995 and 2003 Georgia Dugout Club AA Coach of the Year Award, the 1992 Macon Telegraph Coach of the Year Award and the 2004 Southeast All Star Head Coach Award.
