ATLANTA (January 21, 2009) – State Sen. Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) recently hosted Chaplain of the Day Dr. Tim Riordan of SonRise Baptist Church in Newnan at the state Capitol, where he delivered the morning devotion before the Senate began its daily business.

“I was honored to introduce Dr. Riordan to the Senate chamber and was moved by the stirring address that he delivered,” said Sen. Seabaugh. “I am proud that my Senate colleagues had the opportunity to hear a sermon from this eloquent pastor who lifts my heart each week.”

Dr. Riordan began preaching at the age of 14 and now follows his call as the senior pastor of SonRise Baptist Church. He graduated from Griffin High School and went on to pursue a music degree from the University of Georgia. He then received a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, and a Doctorate of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Riordan and his wife, Sandra, have six children who often accompany him when he ministers throughout the country.

Dr. Riordan, a Spalding County resident, focused his sermon on the importance of good character. He urged that good character is essential for good leadership, something especially important for the senators he was addressing.

Sen. Seabaugh and his family are charter members of SonRise Baptist Church.
