ATLANTA (April 20, 2015) | Sen.Rick Jeffares (R-McDonough) and Rep. Dave Belton (R-Buckhead) today announced that the fiscal year 2016 state budget will include $9.5 million in additional grant funds to construct new buildings for the Georgia FFA/FCCLA Center in Newton County. The Senate gave final approval to the fiscal year 2016 budget, or HB 76, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
“I’m proud of the Georgia General Assembly for their support of this beautiful facility through the 2016 state budget,” said Sen. Jeffares. “I would like to especially thank the members of our local delegation for working with us to secure the important funds. The FFA- FCCLA Center provides more than 30,000 children with more than 160,000 meals every year.”
“These funds will allow the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center to construct a new 30,000 square foot dining facility and 15,000 square foot new activity center. The banquet hall will be one of the largest meeting areas this side of Atlanta,” said Rep. Belton. “The activity center is a multipurpose facility that will seat more than 700 for a banquet meal. These buildings will be available for countless organizations in Newton and the surrounding counties to use and enjoy. We are proud to be able to support this facility in Newton County”
The FFA/FCCLA is one of the largest youth camps in Georgia. The current dining facility is more than 75 years old.
