ATLANTA (August 8, 2016)  |  Sen. Renee Unterman (R– Buford), co-founder of the National Conference of State Legislature Hunger Partnership in 2010, co-chaired the Fighting Hunger in America luncheon on August 8, 2016. The event was held during the NCSL Legislative Summit in Chicago and over 400 legislators attended the luncheon.

“It is an honor to be part of such an important event that addresses kid hunger,” said Sen. Unterman. “No person, especially a child, should be without a meal and today we moved one step closer to solving this crisis. NCSL is fortunate to partner legislators from across the country with famous and successful chefs in order to highlight the need to curb hunger for America’s children. The event was a huge success and I look forward to working with everyone involved on future events and projects that will keep the conversation open.”

The Fighting Hunger in America Luncheon is a lunch and learn about how local communities, key stakeholders and state legislators can come together to combat child hunger. Local solutions and strategies are discussed and future plans are developed.

The luncheon this year highlighted the cooking skills of Hugh Acheson. Mr. Acheson stars as a judge on Bravo’s Top Chef and is a winner of the James Beard Foundation award for Best Chef Southeast in 2012. He is also an award winning cookbook author. Mr. Acheson is chef and owner of four notable restaurants in Georgia, including the Five and Dime in Athens and Empire in Atlanta. The previous Hunger Partnership top chef presenter was Andrew Zimmerman from the famous TV show, Bizarre Foods of America.
