ATLANTA (Dec. 6, 2010) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will be honored by the Progressive States Network with the 2010 State Progressive Leader Award. Orrock will be presented with this award at the Legislative Leadership Retreat in Atlanta on Tuesday, Dec. 7 for her ongoing exemplary public service and vision across the progressive community.
“It’s a true honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization as the Progressive States Network. We must continue our work of supporting working families through effective policy,” said Orrock. “I look forward to a continued partnership with the network as we move closer to the coming legislative session.”
Sen. Orrock has shown a lifelong dedication to the well-being and prosperity of Georgia’s communities. She has demonstrated a tireless commitment as an elected official, community leader, and advocate in support of working families on a broad range of policy areas including health care, women’s issues, civil rights, civil liberties, workforce issues, and the environment.
Progressive States Network aims to transform the political landscape by sparking progressive actions at the state level. Founded in 2005, the group provides coordinated research and strategic advocacy tools to state legislators and their staffs, empowering these decision-makers with everything they need to engineer forward-thinking change. Progressive States also works with non-profits and a variety of constituent groups to build a swath of support for coordinated progressive policy. The overarching goals are to get good policy passed into law and change the way issues are debated in the states.
