Sen. Orrock Named 2012 Immigration Hero

ATLANTA (February 20, 2012) – Immigrants’ List, a bipartisan political action committee, named Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) an Immigration Hero for 2012.  Sen. Orrock is only one of two state legislators to receive this award that honor leaders who exemplify the organizations vision to promote fair immigration reform.

“I am very humbled to be included on this list of advocates who oppose the draconian policies toward our immigrant community and support a positive, productive approach,” said Sen. Orrock.  “Sadly, Georgia’s anti-immigrant laws are harming our economy and our immigrant workforce, and we continue to work for a comprehensive federal reform of our broken immigration system.”

During the 2011 legislative session, she rallied against HB 87 and its significant burden on the agriculture industry and also showed her support for several immigration protests on the Capitol steps.

Immigrants’ List was founded in 2006, and is the only pro-immigration political action committee in the nation.  Each year, they recognize leaders who’ve made a positive impact for immigration reform. The other honorees this year include Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO), Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), President of Citizens for a Better Arizona Randy Parraz and state Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
