Sen. Nikema Williams Placed on Influential Committees

ATLANTA (January 10, 2018)  |  Sen. Nikema Williams (D – Atlanta) was recently appointed to serve on several influential committees for the 2018 Legislative Session by the Senate Committee on Assignments and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle.

“I am very excited to be serving on a number of committees that cover such important issues,” said Sen. Williams. “I look forward to working with constituents, colleagues and citizens all across the state to make district 39 and the state of Georgia the greatest place to call home.”

Sen. Williams will serve as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism, Retirement, State and Local Governmental Operations, Special Judiciary, Urban Affairs and MARTOC committees.

“We must continue to invest and innovate to keep our competitive edge and remain the number one state for business,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “I know Sen. Williams will thoroughly examine the issues before these committees and look for new opportunities to support the 39th district and move our entire state forward.”

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic.  If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.

The second session of the 154th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 8, 2018, at the Georgia State Capitol.
