ATLANTA (March 20, 2013) – Senator Mike Dugan (R-Carrollton) carried his first bill in the State Senate today. House Bill 256 would add cigar wraps to the list of “tobacco related objects” as listed in the Georgia Code and passed 44-6.
“The longer we can keep minors away from tobacco, the better the probability they won’t ever start,” said Sen. Dugan. “It is important to revise the Georgia Code to not only encompass newly developed tobacco products, but to also edit the Code to ensure it is up-to-date with the times.”
Currently, “cigar wraps,” is not included in the list of definitions relating to the sale or possession of tobacco related products to minors under the Georgia Code. HB 256 simply adds “cigar wraps” to the section of the Georgia Code that defines “tobacco related objects.” “Cigar wraps” is defined as individual wrappers that are made of reconstituted tobacco leaf.
As a freshman senator, Sen. Dugan took part in a Senate honored tradition of freshman senator’s receiving a hard time when they present their first piece of legislation.
The bill will now head to the Governor’s desk for final approval.
