ATLANTA (March 2, 2015) | Yesterday, Sen. Lester Jackson (D- Savannah) led the passage of Senate Bill 103 out of the Senate Interstate Cooperation Committee. SB 103 will allow Savannah to extend the St. Patrick’s Day holiday to four days, incorporating weekend days to the annual celebration.
“This extension will ensure that local business have enough time to fully reap the benefits of one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the world,” said Sen. Jackson. “This event is instrumental in the economic viability of Savannah and the entire coastal region of Georgia. I look forward to a swift passage in both chambers so that all those who visit, work and live in Savannah truly enjoy St. Patrick’s Day for years to come.”
SB 103 will revise the definition of St. Patrick’s Day holiday period to mean a period of days, not to exceed four, prior to and including March 17 pertaining to alcohol consumption. Furthermore, this legislation allows Savannah to maximize tourist income by capitalizing on the extended period of days for the annual celebration.
SB 103 will now head to the Senate Rules Committee to be considered for a full vote on the Senate Floor.
