Sen. Lester Jackson Champions St. Patrick’s Day Legislation

Gov. Nathan Deal Signs Senate Bill 103 into Law

SB 103ATLANTA (March 12, 2014) | Today, Sen. Lester Jackson (D–Savannah) joined legislators from the Georgia House of Representatives as Gov. Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 103 into law. SB 103 will allow Savannah to extend the St. Patrick’s Day holiday to four days, incorporating weekend days to the annual celebration.

“I would like to thank the Senate, House of Representatives, and Gov. Deal for their swift action on this important piece of legislation,” said Sen. Jackson.  “St. Patrick’s Day is a corner stone event for Savannah and coastal Georgia. This bill simply ensures that visitors, locals, and businesses alike can enjoy our world class celebration regardless of what day the holiday falls on.”

SB 103 revises the definition of St. Patrick’s Day holiday period to mean a period of days, not to exceed four, prior to and including March 17 pertaining to alcohol consumption. Furthermore, this legislation allows Savannah to maximize tourist income by capitalizing on the extended period of days for the annual celebration.
