ATLANTA (September 24, 2020) | Yesterday, Sen. Larry Walker (R – Perry) was appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve on the Georgia Joint Defense Commission. Having previously been appointed in 2018, Sen. Walker will serve for a two-year term in his current capacity.
“It’s a privilege to be chosen to represent the brave men and women of our state, who selflessly devote their lives to protecting our freedom,” said Sen. Walker. “Over the years, I have seen firsthand the tremendous courage, innovation and self-sacrificing nature of our military communities, and understand full well their monumental impact on our state. Both at home with Robins Air Force Base and throughout all corners of our state, Georgia’s bases undoubtedly serve a vital role in the defense of our nation and are a major component of our state’s economy. I look forward to working with my fellow colleagues to understand how we can best serve and represent those who protect us.”
“Sen. Walker has demonstrated tremendous leadership in the Senate and his past experience working on the Joint Defense Commission makes him an unparalleled candidate,” said Lt. Governor Duncan. “With his passion for his community and dedication to those who serve, I am confident that he will offer great insight into the needs of our hardworking military personnel. I look forward to hearing the recommendations he, and the rest of the Commission, will offer.”
The Joint Defense Commission was created in 2018, pursuant to Senate Bill 395, with the intent of advising the Governor and the General Assembly on state and national defense and military issues. Annually, the Commission is to produce and distribute a report related to Georgia’s military installations and possible plans for realignment.
