ATLANTA (February 18, 2016) | On Thursday, the Georgia State Senate passed by a vote of 39-14 Senate Bill 277, titled Protecting Georgia Small Businesses Act. SB 277 clarifies that neither a franchisee nor a franchisee’s employee be considered employees of the franchisor, highlighting this difference in Georgia law. Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell) sponsored the bill to protect and support franchisees which are small business owners. This bill was supported by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, NFIB, Georgia Childcare Association, Georgia Restaurant Association, Asian American Hotel Owners Association and others.
“My goal is to provide proud small business owners with the opportunity to maintain control of business operations at a local level and continue to grow and prosper,” said Sen. Albers. “This legislation is critical to small business owners, who have achieved their dream to open a business, hire employees and grow their local economy.”
SB 277 will now go to the Georgia House of Representatives.
