Sen. Jesse Stone Statement on the Signing of HB 141, HB 150 and HB 160

ATLANTA (May 9, 2013) – Sen. Jesse Stone (R-Waynesboro) releases the following statement on the signing of his sponsored legislation on May 6:

“I commend Governor Deal and the dedication and hard work of all those who collaborated to make House Bill 141, House Bill 150 and House Bill 160 into law.

These bills are a great example of how the Georgia General Assembly is working to cover a wide array of issues from public safety to property taxes. House Bill 141 passed through the Senate Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, which I chair, and tackles the heartbreaking issue of human trafficking.  House Bill 141 provides resources for victims by requiring certain businesses to post information about the National Human Trafficking Resource Center services and how they can get help.

I was also prompted to carry House Bill 150 after listening to several testimonies of those caught in this online scam.  This new law will make it illegal for websites that publish mug shots for profit to collect fees for their removal after the person photographed has been cleared of any criminal charges.

In addition, I was pleased to see another house bill I carried, HB 160, become law to protect home owners from private transfer fees that are essentially a tax on future sales of the property.  These bills will contribute to the safety and consumer rights of all Georgians by addressing concerns faced in our communities.”
