Sen. Jeffares Applauds Governor Deal for Signing HB 287 into Law

jeffaresHB287ATLANTA (May 7, 2013) – Senator Rick Jeffares (R –Locust Grove) applauds Governor Nathan Deal for signing House Bill 287 into law. Carried by Sen. Jeffares in the Senate, HB 287 transfers oversight of the Division of Archives and History from the Secretary of State to the University System of Georgia. This legislation also renames the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board as the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council.

“I applaud Governor Nathan Deal for signing House Bill 287 into Georgia law,” said Sen. Jeffares. “This legislation streamlines state operations and ensures a more efficient government.”

This legislation eliminates the requirement for the Georgia Archive to prepare an official biennial register regarding state procedures and functions. The bill also removes language authorizing the Secretary of State to manage and direct the Division of Archives and History.

House Bill 287 will go into effect on July 1, 2013.
