ATLANTA (February 21, 2018) | The Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) of Georgia recently announced Sen. Jeff Mullis (R – Chickamauga) as a winner of 2017’s Charlotte Wilen Advocate of the Year Award.
“I’m very honored to receive this award from the HMHB Coalition of Georgia,” said Sen. Mullis. “Programs like the Narcotic Treatment Program Enforcement Act are so important to the health of Georgia’s women and children, and I am glad that my legislation can offer a positive impact in communities across the state.”
The HMHB Coalition of Georgia honored Sen. Mullis for his sponsorship of Senate Bill 88, the Narcotic Treatment Program Enforcement Act. The bill directs the Department of Community Health (DCH) to provide immediate access for pregnant women struggling with drug dependency by implementing a priority admissions policy. SB 88 was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on May 4, 2017.
Senate President Pro Tempore Butch Miller (R – Gainesville) and House Rep. Katie Dempsey (R –Rome) were also honored as winners of the 2017 Charlotte Wilen Advocate of the Year award.
The HMHB Coalition of Georgia is a non-profit that has worked for over forty years to improve access to healthcare for thousands of women and children in Georgia. The non-partisan coalition seeks to advocate for policies promoting access to care and improved health outcomes, as well as educate parents through collaboration with communities and experienced professionals across the state.
