ATLANTA, GA (March 13, 2013) – On Monday, Senator Donzella James (D- Atlanta) welcomed the Honorable Akua Sena Dansua, the first female Minister for Youth and Sports in her native Ghana as well as a three term member of the Ghanaian Parliament. Sen. James sponsored Senate Resolution 9 to recognize the first African Diplomat to address the State Senate.
“It was an honor to host the Hon. Dansua in the Senate Chamber,” said Sen. James. “She is a woman who has overcome huge obstacles to serve her community and represent her voters’ interests in the Ghanaian Government. She recognizes the importance of promoting unity and cooperation among Ghanaians in Georgia and I look forward to building a mutually beneficial relationship between this state and Ghana for years to come.”
Dansua has also served as Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Minister for Tourism and held the leadership position of Deputy Whip within Parliament of Ghana. She initially studied to become a journalist and graduated with a Distinction Diploma in Journalism in 1982 from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. Dansua presently holds a Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana and a Master’s Degree in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. She is currently a Local Adviser for the Africa Women Development Fund and is the proud mother of three children.
