ATLANTA (February 23, 2012) – Sen. Hardie Davis (D-Augusta) honored engineering and technology professionals yesterday at the State Capitol with the presentation of Senate Resolution 967. The resolution deems February 19 – 25, 2012, as Engineers Week and recognizes the contributions engineers make to society as role models and teachers.
“Engineers make the world move—literally,” said Sen. Davis. “Their research and dedication has built cities, cured diseases, enhanced manufacturing processes and created the infrastructure for cross-country transportation. I am proud to honor their achievements and call attention to their work. As an electrical engineer, I understand the tremendous commitment to excellence, innovation and problem solving that engineering professionals exhibit daily to make Georgia a great state.”
Specifically recognized in SR 967 was the engineers’ use of imagination and analytical skills to invent, design, and build; their ability to dream up creative and practical solutions; and that many become licensed professional engineers in order to better protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
National Engineers Week has been observed since 1951 and celebrates the positive efforts engineers make towards the overall improvement of society. It is also a catalyst for outreach across the country to children and adults alike. Engineers Week is a part of many corporate and government cultures and hosts many different days of focus, including Discover Engineering Family Day and Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.
