ATLANTA (April 17, 2015) | Sen. Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain) sponsored Part VIII of Senate Resolution 126 on February 2, commending Mrs. Runell “Nell” Brooks Foster for her contributions to Gwinnett County and naming the intersection of U.S. Highway 78 and Rosebud Road in her honor.
“Mrs. Brooks Foster and her family have long been staples in our community,” said Sen. Butler. “Their family home, the rock house located at the intersection if U.S. Highway 78 and Rosebud road, is a landmark in the area and it’s abundantly fitting that the intersection where she has lived for over 83 years be named after her.”
Nell was born on March 27, 1906 and is the youngest of 12 children. Her father, George B. Foster, was a prominent farmer and land owner, owning more than 150 acres spanning what is now the intersection where she lives. Her husband, Clyde Foster, owned and operated Foster’s Service Station across from the family home for 45 years.
Mrs. Brooks Foster worked as a teacher at the Midway School, where she taught grades one through three. She is the oldest living graduate from Grayson High School and is now 109 years old.
Senate Resolution 126 passed both the Senate and the House on April 2 and has been sent to Governor Deal to be signed into law.
