Sen. Gloria Butler Gives Her Support to Marsy’s Law

ATLANTA (September 5, 2018) |Sen. Gloria Butler (D – Stone Mountain) recently announced that she is in support of the victims’ bill of rights, also known as “Marsy’s Law”. Marsy’s Law was established by Senate Bill 127 and Senate Resolution 146 in the 2018 Legislative Session, passed by both the Senate and House, and was signed by Governor Nathan Deal on May 8, 2018.

“Crime victims in Georgia deserve to have constitutional rights throughout the criminal justice process – just like the accused and convicted do,” said Sen. Butler. “I was proud to support this constitutional amendment when it came before the Senate, which also passed the General Assembly unanimously this year, and now Georgians get the chance to put this important legislation in our constitution. This is about finally giving equal rights to crime victims and ensuring they are protected and informed in every step of the judicial process.”

If ratified by voters in General Election in November of this year, Marsy’s Law will become effective on January 1, 2019. Sen. Butler and Marsy’s Law for Georgia are sponsoring a community resource fair to connect constituents with any services available they might need.
