ATLANTA (July 15, 2015) | Sen. Ellis Black (R- Valdosta) has been selected by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to chair the School Construction Senate Study Committee.
“School systems throughout our state are faced with growing populations that necessitate the construction of new schools,” said Sen. Black. “This study committee is essential to determining the most cost effective manor for building new schools so that individual school systems can maximize their resources and provide a world class education for all children across the state.”
“I’m proud to appoint Sen. Black to chair the School Construction Senate Study Committee and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings,” said Lt.Gov. Cagle. “Sen. Black has been a leader on these issues, and I’m thankful he’s lending his time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform.”
The School Construction Senate Study Committee was created with the passage of Senate Resolution 564 during the 2015 Legislative Session. The purpose of this study committee is to examine the issue of school construction and financing as well as the various methods of financing school construction. Additionally, the committee will look at the differential of school construction costs, the practice of compensating architects based on a percentage of construction costs, and other pertinent matters. The committee must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.
