ATLANTA (July 30, 2025) — Today, Sen. Ed Harbison (D–Columbus) welcomed members of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) to the Georgia State Capitol. The visit highlighted the strong partnership between the state of Georgia and WHINSEC’s international mission to advance leadership, uphold ethics and foster regional cooperation.
As part of their professional development, WHINSEC participants visited the Capitol to learn more about Georgia’s legislative process and the role of state government in supporting public institutions and international engagement.
“I always enjoy welcoming WHINSEC students to Georgia’s State Capitol. Their presence is a powerful reminder of the institute’s decisive role in shaping young minds and strengthening international partnerships across the Americas.
When I served our country, I saw firsthand how critical this training is. WHINSEC not only reinforces our national security, it also prepares the next generation to lead here at home and in partner countries across our hemisphere. I’m grateful that Georgia is home to a place that teaches more than military strategy but also the values of democracy, ethics, and human rights.”
WHINSEC, based at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, brings together military, civilian and law enforcement personnel across the Americas for high-level training focused on leadership, ethics and mutual respect. The Capitol visit underscores Georgia’s unique position as a host and a partner in WHINSEC’s efforts to promote regional security and cross-cultural understanding.
