ATLANTA (March 8, 2018) | Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) welcomed world-renowned artist, Steve R. Allen, and His Excellency Sebastién Impeto Pengo, Chief Administrator of the Ministry of Medium and Small Enterprises for the nation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Senate on March 7, 2018.
“It is always such a pleasure to welcome distinguished guests to our Chamber,” said Sen. James. “Mr. Allen has been such an inspiration as an artist, especially to the city of Atlanta, and I am glad we could welcome him and His Excellency Impeto Pengo to be honored here today.”
Allen has received many awards in his career, especially for his work as an Olympic artist. For the 1996 Centennial Olympic Summer Games, he was named the official artist for the host city and had his work further displayed at the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games. Among his famous works include four pieces in the Smithsonian Institute’s Founding and Permanent Collection at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and has works displayed in the cities of Athens, Greece, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Beijing, China.
Before serving in his official capacity with the federal government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Sebastién Impeto Pengo was the Governor of Equateur Province from 2013 – 2016. His role with the Ministry of Medium and Small Enterprises focuses on fostering a thriving middle class.
