Sen. Donzella James Announces Funds to Extinguish Fire in City of South Fulton

ATLANTA (February 22, 2019) | Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) recently announced that Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has identified state funds to help extinguish a fire in an unpermitted landfill in the City of South Fulton.

“This fire has been a blight in our community for many months and I am eager for the Georgia EPD to implement these funds to finally extinguish this fire,” said Sen. James. “I am extremely concerned about the health risks associated with the constant smoke and I hope that the EPD uses these funds to quickly bring it to an end. I want to thank the Georgia EPD and all others who had a hand in securing these funds and I hope that we can prevent fires like this from occurring in the future.”

The fire is located in an unpermitted landfill in the City of South Fulton. The site caught fire in September of 2018 and is composed of debris such as trees, stumps and wood from demolished buildings.
