ATLANTA (January 27, 2014) | Sen. Don Balfour (R- Snellville) was surprised Monday to speak with his son, Trey Balfour, via Skype from Afghanistan after being deployed earlier this year.
“The work conducted by the Georgia National Guard deserves our upmost recognition for the bravery and valor they possess while protecting our state and country,” said Sen. Balfour. “The opportunity to see Trey during today’s presentation was undoubtedly the best way to begin my week and I cannot express how proud I am of him, his team and the National Guard for their service.”
The Georgia National Guard filled the hallways of the Capitol on Monday for a special day in their honor. Members from the Ga. Guard, along with Adjutant General Jim Butterworth were in attendance for the celebrations.
Trey Balfour was joined by members of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from onsite in Kabul, Afghanistan during the special Skype session. The 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is made up of 3,600 soldiers, has deployed several times in recent years, including to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
