ATLANTA (November 12, 2018) | Senator Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) commends Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) on launching a scholarship program, “Southwestern Promise,” for incoming freshmen affected by Hurricane Michael.
“Despite the devastation Hurricane Michael brought to our communities, it’s been so encouraging to see people and organizations come together in an effort to rebuild, and the ‘Southwestern Promise’ is a prime example in doing so,” said Sen. Burke. “This scholarship program will help incentivize students who have worked hard in their academics and who wish to continue their success at a collegiate level with some financial peace of mind. I’m thankful for the leadership of GSW and the example they have made by creating this new scholarship opportunity.”
The “Southwestern Promise” scholarship will launch in the fall of 2019 and will award students either $1,000 or $2,000 based on students’ SAT/ACT scores. Freshmen who live in all eight counties within the 11th Senate District will have the opportunity to apply.
