Sen. David Shafer’s remarks honoring the late Will Trautwein and the Will to Live Foundation

Sen. David Shafer (R-Duluth) today delivered the following the remarks welcoming the members of the Trautwein family to the State Senate and supporting Senate Resolution 262:

“It is privilege to present Senate Resolution 262 honoring the Trautwein family and the Will to Live Foundation.  Will to Live was created by the Trautweins to remember their son, grandson and brother, Will Trautwein, a 15 year old boy who tragically took his own life less than five months ago.

“There are some things we can never fully understand.  There are some wounds that never fully heal.  But sometimes out of unimaginable confusion and pain, good can happen.

“Will Trautwein’s all too short life and terrible passing has galvanized a community and given birth not just to an organization but to a cause.  Will to Live was created to draw attention to the growing problem of teen depression and suicide.  But more than a mere vehicle to address a societal ill, Will to Live is a messenger of hope.

“Life is filled with ups and downs.  Tough times come, but they pass.
Things always get better.  Each of our lives has meaning.  Each one of us is loved.

“Please join me in welcoming the members of the Trautwein family and two of Will’s friends, as Will’s father, John Trautwein, accepts this resolution from the State Senate.”
