Sen. David Shafer Recognizes Korean American Day

shaferATLANTA (January 13, 2014)  |  Sen. David Shafer ( R – Duluth) presented Senate Resolution 737 in the Georgia State Senate chamber today, honoring the celebration of Korean American Day. The event commemorates the arrival of the first Korean immigrants in the United States on January 13, 1903.

“Like the immigrants of all nationalities who came before them, Korean Americans have contributed significantly to our great nation. I am honored to recognize the positive impact of the Korean American community on Senate District 48 and the State of Georgia,” said Sen. Shafer.

Gwinnett County, which is part of Senate District 48, has one of the largest Korean American populations in the United States. Business leaders and public officials credit the community for its part in the county’s growth and regularly engage in conversations regarding economic and social issues faced by Korean Americans on a daily basis.

With this resolution, Georgia joins a number of other states and municipalities recognizing January 13 as Korean American Day. The United States Senate and House of Representatives also passed resolutions in 2005 by unanimous consent honoring the goals and aspirations of Korean American Day.
