ATLANTA (January 27, 2012) – Sen. Cecil Staton (R-Macon) was recently named Legislator of the Year by Georgia Bio, an organization dedicated to advancing the life sciences industry in Georgia. Sen. Staton was honored Thursday evening at the Annual Georgia Bio Awards Dinner at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.
“It is an honor to be recognized by Georgia Bio for my work to support the life sciences industry in Georgia,” said Sen. Cecil Staton. Scientific research is a great investment for Georgia’s future growth and development.”
As Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Sen. Staton allocated additional funding to support scientific research and development at Georgia’s universities.
“Georgia Bio is honored to recognize Senator Staton’s contribution and commitment to the life sciences industry, in particular his support for research funding at our state’s universities. Support for institutional research is critical to the growth of the life sciences industry and the continued increase in high-paying jobs for Georgians,” said Georgia Bio President Charles Craig.”
Georgia Bio is a non-profit, membership-based organization that promotes the interests and growth of the life sciences industry. Members include companies, universities, research institutions, government groups and other industry associations involved in discovery and application of life sciences products and related services that improve the health and well-being of people throughout the world.
