ATLANTA (August 15, 2013) – Sen. Gloria Butler (D- Stone Mountain) was recently appointed to the Senate Study Committee on Independent Physician Practices in Georgia. Over the next several months, the committee will specifically undertake a study of issues surrounding independent physicians and the impact of state policies on state health care quality and costs.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the Senate Study Committee on Independent Physician Practices in Georgia,” said Sen. Butler. “The work of this committee is critically important to evaluating policies that govern independent physician practices and ensuring they have the resources necessary to provide quality health care for all Georgians.”

Governor Casey Cagle. “Senator Butler has been a leader on these issues and I’m thankful she’s lending her time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform.”
The Senate Study Committee on Independent Physician Practices in Georgia was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 340 during the 2013 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee will consist of four members of the Senate appointed by the Lieutenant Governor.
The committee will specifically address the continued decrease of independent physicians practicing in the state and identify barriers to free market health care.
The study committee will report its findings before January 1, 2014.
