ATLANTA (December 18, 2017) | Sen. Jack Hill (R – Reidsville) and Rep. Bill Werkheiser (R – Glennville) recently announced that Evans County was granted a request made to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for additional funding to address grading, drainage and base for paving on Area Line Road (county road 76) at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Evans County public fishing area.
“I am happy to see GDOT awarding this grant to our community,” said Sen. Hill. “Paving the roadway into the Public Fishing Area will enhance visitor’s access and be safer for campers and others who will be using the expected camping areas planned by DNR.”
“Thank you to GDOT for investing in Evans County,” said Rep. Werkheiser. “This grant reflects GDOT’s commitment to improving and maintaining our local roadways, and I am proud that Evans County was selected to receive this funding. Paving the roadway to our community’s public fishing area will greatly benefit locals and visitors alike.”
The award will be funded out of GDOT’s Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) Program. GDOT will commit $275,000 or 90 percent of the project’s cost, whichever is less. Bids for the project must be received Dec. 31, 2018. In order to receive the funds, Evans County will need to complete and execute the LMIG application and project list. The county will need to agree to meet all of the requirements outlined in the application.
The General Assembly appropriated some $1 million for improvements to the Public Fishing Area during the 2017 Session and DNR expects to continue an improvement plan for the Public Fishing Area.
