ATLANTA (February 9, 2023) | Today, Sen. Sonya Halpern (D – Atlanta), held a press conference with members of the General Assembly, several Presidents of Georgia’s HBCUs, partner organizations and other stakeholders to announce the findings and recommendations of the Senate Study Committee on Excellence, Innovation, and Technology at HBCUs.

“Georgia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities have made exceptional contributions to not only Georgia’s economy but its workforce,” said Sen. Halpern. “With over 12,000 jobs created and an annual economic impact of $1.3 billion, we have the opportunity to position HBCUs as stronger catalysts for diversifying the state’s workforce, driving more innovation and economic impact, and anchoring community and economic development around their campuses.” The study committee outlined four recommendations which offer an innovative approach for institutional growth and sustainability while also positioning Georgia as a leader.
