Sen. Valencia Seay accepts the Legislator of the Year award from the Georgia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

ATLANTA (June 14, 2010) – State Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) has recently been named Legislator of the Year by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Georgia Chapter for her continuing efforts to improve disability rights in Georgia.  She was honored in Atlanta during The Political Side of MS, an annual event organized by the National MS Society.

Sen. Buckner announces Program to Honor Community Military Organizations at the Capitol

ATLANTA (June 14, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) is announcing a program in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol tomorrow, June 15, at 1:00 p.m. to honor the Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia and the youth members of the Griffin Squadron Civil Air Patrol.  The Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia is part of a national non-profit organization of riders dedicated to attending the funeral services of fallen American heroes.  As an official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol is a non-profit public service organization devoted to emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education.

Transparency in Government Act and Paper Reduction Act Signed into Law

CLARKESVILLE (June 10, 2010) – The Transparency in Government Act (SB 389) and the Paper Reduction Act (SB 388) were signed into law by Gov. Sonny Perdue. Sen. Jim Butterworth (R-Clarkesville) authored the legislation promoting further transparency and savings in government.  The Transparency in Government Act will enhance reporting requirements of the public information website, open.georgia.gov. The Paper Reduction Act will bring cost savings by reducing the unnecessary, wasteful use of paper and increase electronic distribution and publication practices. Rogers Named Senator of the Year by Georgia Retailers
