ATLANTA (December 16, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) will co-host a meeting of the Clayton County Leadership Roundtable with Lake City Mayor Willie Oswalt on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the City of Riverdale Council Chambers.  The roundtable will focus on mental health issues in Clayton County.  The general public is encouraged to attend.

Legislators and Community Groups Call for Economic Considerations for Immigrant Law

Concerns are raised about potential negative impact on Georgia’s economy

ATLANTA (December 16, 2010) – Anticipated legislative proposals from the Georgia General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Committee on Immigration Reform are raising serious concerns about the impact on Georgia’s fragile economic recovery outlook.  In the face of Congressional failure to address immigration reform, the threat of job killing measures such as those that passed in Arizona loom over the upcoming legislative session.  Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) and Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone) call for comprehensive hearings that will look at the problem and demand a solution to protect Georgia’s security and economic recovery.

Sen. Brown announces Local Legislative Delegation Meetings

MACON (December 16, 2010) – Senate Democratic Leader Robert Brown (D-Macon) and Representative James “Bubber” Epps will hold delegation meetings in Twiggs and Wilkinson Counties with local officials and citizens on Friday, December 17.  These meetings will be an opportunity for local leaders and citizens to share their concerns and “wish lists” with their delegation.

Lawmakers Examine Ways to Increase State Water Supply

ATLANTA (December 9, 2010) – In an ongoing effort to address Georgia’s pressing water needs, Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) and Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan) co-chaired a meeting this week of the Joint Committee on Water Supply at the State Capitol.  The committee brought together stakeholders from across the state to present financing, environmental and economic considerations for increasing Georgia’s water supply.
