The beginning of a new fiscal year is always an exciting time for legislators as we get to see a lot of the hard work we put into the legislative session come to fruition. July 1st is quickly approaching, and I want to let you know about some of the state-wide changes we’ll be seeing this year. The biggest of them is arguably the state’s General 2020 budget, which includes a $3,000 pay increase for teachers and other certified school employees, but there are some other bills we passed this session that you should be looking forward to seeing implemented. July 1, 2019, along with the day the legislature adjourns Sine Die, is one of the most important days for the Georgia General Assembly. Not only does it mark the beginning of the new fiscal year but it is also the date numerous new laws will go into effect. After the 2019 session adjourned Sine Die on April 2, 2019, Governor Brian P. Kemp had 40 days to review over 300 general and local bills and resolutions the legislature passed. While some of the bills were signed into law during session and some have become law since adjournment, the vast majority will go into effect this Monday. These bills will have an impact on health care access, your children’s education and safety, among other things.
