ATLANTA, June 3, 2010 – The Georgia office of the National Federation of Independent Business has presented state Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) with its coveted Guardian of Small Business Award.

The Guardian of Small Business Award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues.

“Sen. Mullis is one of only four sitting state senators who have maintained a 100 percent NFIB voting record for more than five consecutive terms in office,” said David Raynor, state director of NFIB/Georgia, the state’s leading small business association.

“Since he was elected in 2000, Sen. Mullis has stood by NFIB/Georgia on every issue of importance to the small business community,” Raynor said. “As chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, he has worked to ease Georgia’s transportation woes, and he has co-sponsored numerous bills and resolutions over the years designed to help small businesses grow and create jobs.

“Clearly, he understands the important role that small business plays in providing jobs and economic development in the community,” Raynor said.

“Small business is the backbone of our nation and Georgia’s economy.  As legislators, we have a duty and responsibility to create the right climate for small business growth and economic prosperity.  Allowing the small business sector the room they need will create jobs, stimulate the economy and ensure future stability in the market,” said Mullis.  “I’m honored to share this prestigious award with my colleagues and will continue working with NFIB to further Georgia’s small business sector.”
