ATLANTA (October 23, 2013) – Senator Cecil Staton (R – Macon) was recently recognized as a recipient of the Medical Association of Georgia’s “1849 Friends of Medicine” Award. Senator Staton was formally presented the award at the Medical Association of Georgia’s 159th House of Delegates meeting on Sunday, October 20 at the Legacy Lodge and Conference Center at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
“I am greatly honored to be recognized by the Medical Association of Georgia as a recipient of the ‘1849 Friends of Medicine’ Award,” said Senator Staton. “As one of the state’s premier advocacy organizations for Georgia’s medical community, the Medical Association of Georgia has done an outstanding job supporting Georgia families and physicians statewide.”
The “1849 Friends of Medicine” Award is given to a state legislator who demonstrates outstanding leadership supporting medical and health care issues during the Georgia General Assembly’s annual legislative session. Senator Staton was honored by the Medical Association of Georgia’s “House of Delegates,” a policy-making body that meets once a year.
“Senator Cecil Staton was an exemplary champion for physicians during the General Assembly in 2013,” says MAG President W. Scott Bohlke, M.D. “He understands that there is a direct relationship between the practice environment and ensuring that Georgians continue to have access to the best medical care in the world.”
Founded in 1849, the Medical Association of Georgia advocates on behalf of physicians and their patients through active engagement in legislative policy decisions.
