Lt. Governor Cagle and Sen. Tim Golden Welcome Rev. Franklin J. Richards II as Chaplain of the Day

ATLANTA (February 2, 2012) – Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Sen. Tim Golden (R-Valdosta) welcomed Reverend Franklin J. Richards II, Pastor at Second Harvest of South Georgia, to serve as the Chaplain of the Day on February 1, 2012 in the State Senate.

“It was especially nice to welcome Pastor Richards on Food Bank Day at the Capitol,” said Sen. Golden. “His passion for serving those in need is evident in his many accomplishments with the Second Harvest of the South organization, which provides food to over 25 million people a year.”

“It was an honor to welcome Reverend Richards to the Senate yesterday.  The tradition of the Senate to begin each day with a devotional and prayer allows us to set our mind and heart in the right direction as we make important policy decisions.  As we face daunting challenges during this session, I’m confident that the Senate will answer the call to serve.  Yesterday, Reverend Richards encouraged Senators and inspired each of us to lead our state in the right direction,” Lt. Governor Casey Cagle said.

Richards is the President and CEO of Second Harvest of the South, the largest hunger relief organization in the South Georgia.  The facility provides almost 14 million pounds of food to over 700 local charities each year. Richards is a recipient of the Liberty Bell Award presented by the South Georgia Bar and was named to the Georgia Trend “40 Under 40” list in 2009.  Richards is a graduate of Valdosta State University and has two sons.
