ATLANTA – House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Auburn) and Senator Clint Dixon (R-Gwinnett) applauded today’s passage by the Senate of SB 333, legislation to create the City of Mulberry in northeastern Gwinnett County. If passed in the House and signed by the Governor, SB 333 would place the question of cityhood on the spring primary ballot for residents in the proposed city.
“I want to thank Senator Dixon for his tireless efforts to get this legislation across the finish line in the Senate,” said Majority Leader Efstration. “Our constituents are now one step closer to gaining local control over the future of our community without having to pay city property taxes.”
Sen. Dixon expressed his satisfaction with Senate’s passage of SB 333, “I am pleased to have witnessed the successful passage of SB 333 in the Senate. This measure will acknowledge and address the concerns from my constituents in the 45th Senate District who have been afflicted by zoning issues occurring in the area. I strongly believe that the creation of the City of Mulberry will provide for the proper representation and cityhood that my constituents deserve. I am thankful to House Majority Leader Rep. Chuck Efstration (R-Auburn) for his continued support and collaboration on this issue and I look forward to its passage in the House.”
Senate Bill 333 now goes to the House for consideration. If approved by the voters, the City of Mulberry would provide planning and zoning, code enforcement and stormwater management services and would not be allowed to implement a city property tax.
