Governor Kemp Signs Senate Bill 140 into Law

ATLANTA (March 24, 2023) | Yesterday, Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 140 into law. SB 140, sponsored by Senator Carden Summers (R – Cordele), would prohibit certain surgical procedures for the treatment of gender dysphoria in minors from being performed in hospitals and other licensed healthcare facilities.

“SB 140 will safeguard children and keep minors from making a life-altering decision they may regret later in life,” said Sen. Summers. “This bill is a product of months of careful consideration and analysis. I want to thank Governor Kemp for signing SB 140 in an expedited manner. Additionally, I want to thank my Senate and House colleagues who supported this critically important measure.”

Senate Bill 140 passed the Senate on March 6, where it was changed and passed by the House on March 16. The Senate took final action on March 21, agreeing to the House version and sending the bill to Gov. Kemp’s desk.
